this filter differs from the original type from cuisinart. cuisinart is a bit harsh when lightly squeezed/squeezed between thumb and forefinger, the charcoal pellets are more densely packed in the cartridge. This aftermarket cartridge compresses easily, almost flat. the coal pellets rattle easily compared to the more densely packed cuisinart original. Unfortunately I can't determine exactly how effective these filters are as I don't have a lab. The taste of the coffee is the same as if I hadn't used the filter. the original cuisinart filter produced one of the best tasting coffees around. It seems that a significant amount of the items I get from Amazon are "scratches and dents", cheaply made and no longer varied.
