I have various steering wheel and balancer pullers but sometimes have trouble installing the balancer. I've never liked hammer action, but unless you have a long bolt with the right thread, I've sometimes had to hammer on the balancer a short distance from the crankshaft until the bolt hits the threads. Of course, I always protected the balancer with 2x4s, but even so, I became a terrible hammer mechanic. Chevy engines were the ones I had to do most of the time, but it was only a short distance and the balancers moved relatively easily with light taps until the threads engaged. But recent work on a Jeep with a 258 Cu In Rambler engine changed everything. I heard about installers and finally decided to add them to my toolbox. I haven't needed it since then, but it's funny how sometimes after buying an instrument you wonder how you managed without it before.
