I bought this 1300w portable cheftop induction hob to use in my vanlife van. I chose it because it is 1300w as opposed to most other 1800w which need a larger inverter to run. Here's what I found. The hob works very well when cooking with electricity (as opposed to cooking at temperature). I used it the first few times with a Killawatt power meter to determine things like peak power at startup, mileage and correlation of displayed power to actual power. When running with power levels, I set the device to 1000 watts, it drew about 1000 watts. 600 was about 600, 1300 was about 1300. At peak power, which I could only pick up by pressing the power button, which always starts at 1000 watts, the peak was 1035, through 1050, never higher. I was able to run this with a very good quality Giandel 1200W pure sine wave inverter (red). I've never run it above 1000 watts. I have also given a 2200w Giandel pure sine wave inverter and it will run on the hob without restriction. This way you can also set the temperature, for example, if you want to fry something. I set one of the extra temperatures, 325 or so, and roasted some ripe bananas (I'm Cuban). I monitored the oil temperature with a remote-read digital cooking thermometer. The oil heated up quicker than my gas range (at home) which was nice, but after I tossed in the sliced bananas the temp dropped to around 235 and the hob struggled to get the temp back to set point. , and in fact I never managed to go all the way. I've never tried a psyllium test with power levels instead of temperatures, so I can't say if it would be better, equal, or worse than the temperature settings. For things like boiling water, it's FAST! Much faster than a gas stove at home. In summary, the unit performs well and I suspect that at 1300 watts it might not be delivering enough power to recover temperatures quickly. Basic cooking is great, and using it in a van is the best alternative to camping stoves, a pocket rocket kitchen, a built in propane stove, etc. The unit wipes down well and really does whatever I want it to do well enough. for a warm recommendation. However, if you want to use it at home or elsewhere with a traditional power supply, choose the 1800W unit. They cost about the same as this, but with an extra 500W of power it would be a better device overall. Oh, and the on/off label for the power button on mine is marked No/Off. This resulted in me screaming NO every time I spin NO. This is a good buy and I love it!
