I'm not good at working at height and have 3 small stools and a higher step stool so I can reach items on high shelves and do other tasks. I use them frequently. Like the other reviewer, I had to lie down on my bed to adjust the ceiling fan speed or turn the lights on and off. The living room fan had the same thrust and I kept forgetting which one was being controlled and like the bedroom fans they were too high to reach. I searched here for traction chain extenders and found several different lengths and types and after figuring out what length I needed I ordered them. They were easy to install and long enough for me to control my fans without using a stool or climbing onto the bed. As these extenders come in a variety of lengths I suggest you try to get an idea of how much length you would like to add before ordering and then make your selection accordingly. Not sure about durability but so far they seem like a great way to solve an annoying problem.
