I have a Sea Clear AIO reef tank and the pre-filter has a large egg strainer with filter sock. I hate filter socks. When it comes to cleaning they are a complete PIA so instead of a filter sock I use this. The egg is large, probably 16 inches high and 5 inches wide. All I have to do is cut a piece about 1.5 inches wider. Wrap the bottom of the egg crate and slide it into place. When you push it all the way down, it folds around the back of the egg crate and snaps into place, and you're done. It's tighter around the edges than a filter sock, has better mechanical filtration in my opinion, and polishes the water well. And if you just need to replace it. No dirty smelly filter socks to wash.
