This pencil sharpener sharpened at least 150 pencils from a school pack of dull colored pencils. It still works great. It didn't coke, and although it got hot, it didn't overheat or stall. I only had to stop to dump the shavings. I sharpened the knife myself, so I can't say it will hold up in a class full of students. I wish the chip compartment was bigger and easier to empty. It seems like it could be stronger. If you don't need to sharpen your crayons I would recommend buying an old Panasonic hitchhiker on eBay made around the 1980's as they seem to be more durable and their chip compartments are larger and much easier to empty. But if you need to sharpen crayons I highly recommend this product as I haven't found anything better.
