Update: I just bought a second access point to set up as a mesh access point to extend the range of outdoor cameras and devices. I will probably buy at least two more. Suffice to say I love it. I researched and purchased this router with the express intention of replacing my ISP owned Wi-Fi router with something running OpenWRT. Alternative to open source firmware. I tried to do something too complicated that I misunderstood and unplugged the device for a short time. Using the documentation above, I was able to unlock it without any special tools. The signal is slower than the router provided by my ISP, but it's also a more advanced router with MU-MIMO and beamforming, and probably at least a notch up in terms of price range. The signal is not too slow to meet my home WiFi needs. I plan to upgrade to something more powerful at some point, but this will likely be my primary router for at least the next year. If you want an open router to have complete control over your internal network for privacy reasons, this is the perfect router for you too. If you're a regular Jane and want a basic router that's easy to use, reliable, and fast enough for everyday workloads; Guess what. This is the router for you.
