Review on Spectrastone Permaglo Orange Gravel for Freshwater Aquariums, 5-Pound Bag by Kristy Lamoreaux

This gravel is toxic to fish and killed my Chinese Algae Eater. Less than 24 hours after setting up a 10 gallon aquarium with this gravel, my fish (2 platys, 3 tetras, 1 molly and 1 Chinese algae eater) started gasping for air and became more and more desperate over time. I've discarded all possible reasons why they might not have enough air. It couldn't be ammonia since it was new water, I always use prime and it doesn't harm them, the filter made enough vibration to oxygenate the water, the decorations were the same as their previous tank. Less than 24 hours later, my Chinese algae eater died. I could only conclude that the gravel was the problem. I decided to remove the gravel and use the only medium I had from the small tanks I had before. This allowed the lucky fish to breathe again. This confirmed that it was the gravel that was causing the death of one of my fish and the suffering of others as the only change I made was the gravel. After removing the gravel from the aquarium, I noticed that some of the pieces had already lost color and some had even sort of dissolved. When I rinsed it off (and rinsed it well) before putting it in the aquarium, I also noticed that there were a lot of small particles in the gravel. Some of them were too small. I mixed this gravel with the same brand of Speedy Racer mix and both performed the same dh=UTF8 I am very upset that they are selling these harmful and inferior products. I'm adding pics of my dead algae eater when I first set up the tank and the fish still felt good when the fish gasped :(, pics of the gravel after I took it out of the tank , and the new set up after I replaced the gravel and the fish were happy again It was a horrible experience.
