Game Changes - 2 GSD Rescues

Firstly I have ordered hundreds of products from Revain and I believe this is only the second time I have taken the time to review a product. I think this is an important category if you are a dog lover, so just want to help with training. I ordered a collar/remote control and two other collars. Everything arrived within two days and was very easy to set up. Haven't used customer service yet, but it's probably one of the most active C/S departments I've come across. I received emails before and after receiving my packages that included a user manual and links to videos to help with setup/programming. Again, programming was very easy and the collars retain their memory, which is one of the reasons I chose this brand. I have a 12 year old Blue Heeler/Beagle mix and a 4 year old German Shepherd. My GSD was a rescue dog who had rough years the first few years (before he found us) and was aggressive towards other animals and some people out of fear as he was not socialized as a puppy. It is in development and is the big baby in my family. We were recently contacted by the same location where we received GSD #1 to see if we could consider GSD #2 who is around 1 year old and also male. We hesitated based on the obvious but were confident that this could ultimately help GSD#1 as GSD#2 was a confident, social dog. I took a week off to introduce Stone to our pack. The first acquaintance took place on neutral territory near the friends' pond. My son took GSD #1 (Rambo) one way and I took Stone the other. As predicted, Rambo went into war mode as soon as he spotted Stone 60 meters away. He is very protective of my family, as is often the case with GSD. My wife was convinced that this would never work. We made a few passes for 10-15 yards (both dogs on leashes) but the tension never let up. Then I let Stone into our house and property without our other two dogs. Then he removed it and brought them in so they could get used to his smell. For the first few days we couldn't let them in the same room together. Here, too, my wife was very skeptical. I firmly believe that her fear also fueled the early fire. After working with them on a leash in our garden for a few days, I muzzled them and started approaching them. Rambo let him get closer, but he was a compressed tension spring. Then I introduced collars. I started buzzing (vibrating mode) every time I saw an aggressive look from one of them. We have an invisible fence, so Rambo got that feeling right away. I then allowed them to roam the house along with muzzles and continued the Buzz Against Aggression procedure. The first day I kept Stone on a leash in our house just to ensure positive control. Then the crucial moment: They were having a busy day, so I waited until I was home alone with the dogs to keep calm. I dropped Rambo out of 1st place and waited a few minutes. Then I took Stone with me on a leash. Both wear collars. I was expecting Rambo to come after Stone and figured if it escalated into a fight he would get his first shock. That's exactly what happened. I did this 20 feet from the door and Rambo lunged at Stone which resulted in a dog fight. As soon as he attacked, I corrected him. That ended the fight immediately. To my surprise, this not only ended the fight but also forced Rambo to surrender. I think he thinks Stone has electric superpowers and doesn't want to mess with him. Stone I have exactly one week today. When you consider where we started and where we are now, it's just incredible. 99% positive reinforcement with these collars and my pets are almost calm. I use fewer and fewer collars each day and have only had 3 shocks. 2 Rambo and 1 stone. All other fixes in vibration mode. Looking at these photos, imagine two dogs who tried to kill each other across the pond a week ago, a black and tan (Rambo) who would never let another dog into his home, and a blonde (Stone) who just wants to play. . . but never back. Our other dog is just trying to keep his distance. He's too old to mess with those two. Product literature does not recommend the use of these collars for aggressive dogs. I'm here to say these collars will help me retrain him with another non-aggressive dog and I'm guessing I won't be needing these collars anytime soon. A happy and secure dog is one that is trained and knows their limits. these collars were the answer for me. To my beautiful wife - I told you so!
