Great as a macro and portrait lens!

Received within 1 day but shipped on 2nd day! Now to the lens. I'm very happy with the sharpness and clarity in both macro and portrait modes. Using the macro mode set on my Sony A65, I was able to zoom in on the ruler and found that the maximum magnification is around 23mm across the longest dimension of the image, meaning that objects just under an inch in size will take up the entire expanse of the Landscape. oriented photo on Sony A65 camera. So there are 6000 pixels divided by 23 mm = 261 pixels per millimeter of resolution. Don't breathe, or your plane of focus will shift as the camera gets closer or away from the subject while breathing. I got some great shots with the 50mm lens in portrait mode. And thanks to the f/2.8 speed, I even got some great shots in a dimly lit room from 20 feet away with my A65's built-in flash. Can't wait for my external flash (Sony HVL-F43AM) to get here to see how far I can reliably shoot at night. This is an expensive lens, but in this case you get what you pay for.

Pros
  • High definition image quality with high contrast
Cons
  • Expensive insurance
