I came up with the BEST hack!

I LOVE Feline Pine cat litter, but for some mysterious reason my cat has 'disliked' it in its pure 'new kibble' state since it was a kitten. He developed a habit of pooping in the tub whenever he came across a freshly washed box of fresh pine pellets. And I can't explain why! Perhaps the pads on the paws (such a delicate flower) are hampered by hard pebbles? He still "wanted" to urinate on the new pellets, but I couldn't get him out of that habit of pooping in the tub! But I was determined to keep using pine litter and when I got this sieving "system" it CHANGED EVERYTHING! And I'm DOUBLE the lifespan of the Feline Pine pack! Here's what I do: I put his huge tray of pure FP pellets near the bathroom. When it's wet enough to form sawdust, I sift the pellets into one of the two boxes that come with this product. Then I return the remaining pellets to his large box, add more pellets (enough to cover the bottom of the box) and leave the sawdust box in the tub. So it basically has 2 compartments. He still pisses on pellets, but now he POOPs in sawdust! It is so beautiful! Also, the pellets are MUCH LESS WASTE because when I scoop the poop out of the sawdust, I'm not throwing out perfectly good pellets with the poop! This makes it easier to scoop poop out of sawdust! And since I'm retired and home all day, I got to know his poop plan. So I keep his "poop tray" locked in the bathroom, let him pee on eggs, and open the bathroom door when I think he's ready to poop. If I'm wrong about his "schedule" he can still poop pellets (he has no choice!). But if I don't close the bathroom door he pees in the sawdust which is ok but it makes me empty that drawer more often because diva kitten he poops in the bathroom if the sawdust smells too much of urine (it stays pretty clean if I sift new stuff often enough - I just throw away what I have and keep sifting "fresh" sawdust). Sounds like more work than it really is. It's just the "box management" that was really a game changer for both me and my cat. Obviously there's *something* he doesn't like about pellets (and that's clearly not going to change - he's 2 years old now), but I'm calling the shots here and I think Feline Pine is the best filler. So this is my trash can and we are very happy. I'm so glad this product exists! A bag of Feline Pine now lasts TWICE (or longer!?), keeping smelly poo in the bathroom where it belongs. The world is right again. 😌😼
