Do not buy these antennas

I bought 3 of these antennas hoping at least one would be "good enough" to use. nope Installs on a properly installed HMO in the center of the roof of a GMC pickup. The SWR is *at best* 4:1 on VHF and generally over 10:1 on UHF. All 3 antennas have exactly the same behavior. I've been looking at these things on the service monitor, they're not resonating anywhere near where they should be. I surgically opened up one of these antennae to see what's inside. An acceptable copy of Laird's design, but they still messed it up as the cap and inductor settings produce an antenna that doesn't resonate in any of the designed bands. Doesn't even make a good dummy load. No 3 inch antenna is going to cost you much but if you want to at least keep your finals intact buy 2 Laird phantoms and use a diplexer. This thing isn't worth the weight for holding papers on your desk.
