Review on πŸ”§ Motorcraft Switch: Enhancing Efficiency and Performance by Brian Unruh

Revainrating 4 out of 5

There are some good videos on YouTube showing the procedure

Our 2004 Ford Explorer XLT ran out of battery because the brake lights were on all the time which caused a lot of drama while I was out of town was. After researching I found that a common cause is the brake light switch (when you apply the brake it closes the circuit so the light comes on). They can usually be opened up and repaired as the most common fault is that the spring inside tends to lose tension and the arcs close the circuit. Personally, I chose not to fix the critical switch as the lack of brake lights could result in a rear end. Collision. It had instructions and it was a bit of a hassle as you had to crawl under the dash headfirst and there wasn't much room. There are some good videos on YouTube demonstrating the procedure. Unfortunately I'm giving this part 4 stars because you have to cut into the original factory wiring and splice in the new connector. I spoke to a Ford dealer and eventually they replaced these switches. If you can't find a genuine Motorcraft part number, you're out of luck. I wouldn't try to use the common part for something that important.
