First I must warn anyone who is purchasing this product: DO NOT USE THE BATTERY PROVIDED. Battery doesn't work on all devices, you get ridiculously high readings, or the device restarts when you press and hold the shutter button. I would like to point out that I bought one of these in hopes of using it with my oven; However, upon arrival the thermometer was not working. I would press the trigger once to turn it on and it would turn on; As soon as I tried holding the trigger to get a reading, it shut down and restarted. no laser guide, no screen. Of course I reported that I got a defective one. I get a replacement the next day and use the same battery from the previous device. This one had similar problems, it wouldn't restart; but the screen "turned off" and I got an outrageously high number (including 350°F). I went to the store, got my own 9 volt battery and went home to try it out. The new battery worked great, I compared it to my current thermometer (my current one only shows 1000°F) and it's within ±0.5°F. ; very good for the price. Very satisfied after initial troubleshooting. I will post a video of the symptoms soon.
