I've tried this cold drink for the past two weeks and am disappointed. In theory this design is a great idea, but in practice the center chamber either has too little surface area for cold brewing when using a near-ideal amount of grist, or if less grist is used to allow for movement of the grist within the chamber allow , the infusion is too weak. The filter also allows fine sediments to pass through. (Fans of the French press might not like this.) I bought this jug hoping it would solve the following problems: 1) Easy cold brew process (put in the fridge and forget about for 16-24 hours), 2) Ease cleaning the grinder, 3) Eliminate the need to run a slow filtration at the end of the brew cycle with my V60 and some #2 filters (I used a very basic grind - pre-purchased solution in a bottle). In my testing, I have found that it does not solve the problems listed above. I brewed for 24 hours and felt that the coffee grounds in the cylinder chamber were not sufficiently covered (rather only the outermost parts of the cylinder were covered the most due to the lack of water flow through the chamber). ). After brewing for 24 hours to reach the desired strength, I found that the drink has a fine sediment that I need to filter out (because I prefer cold brew without sediment). Finally, cleaning was more difficult as you had to squeeze out the thickness, then scrape and finally wash gently. After an initial test run, I removed the grinder housing/chamber, placed the grounds in a bottle and filtered as before (using V60 filters after 16 hours of brewing). This works well but isn't perfect as the ground coffee will settle to the bottom in a small, tall bottle with less coverage than is probably optimal. I stir the soil regularly during the brewing time to solve the surface problem. This Coffee Gator bottle requires me to stir rather than shake (because of the permanent hole in the lid). You also can't put this glass container on its side for the same reason. So my experience of using it without the plastic cylinder was also disappointing. It's actually perfect for making lemonade or tea, but not coffee, which I like. The lemons can sit in the chamber and you can fill the lemons with new water. Here's how I want to use it now. This is my Coffee Gator lemonade maker! A nice try and idea from Coffee Gator indeed, but there are less technological methods that produce much better cold coffee.
