update: further investigation shows that the clock still stopped 1.31v with the battery. This is due to severely unbalanced hands. Either by putting a counterweight on the affected arm, or by clipping it and balancing it before I put it back on, the watch now runs on the same battery! They work the way they're supposed to. However, I found that the movement drained the battery very quickly. Now I have to change the battery every few months instead of years. It is very annoying when time is lost and you get confused regularly.
