My car had a rough idle and after cleaning my stock MAF I saw a big difference in idle and no more hesitation when accelerating on my Mazda 5. It came back so I bought a new one instead only to be cleaned once. The reason this part fails is due to excess carbon in the air intake. You also need to clean the throttle body or you risk premature failure of the new MAF. I cleaned the throttle body, replaced the MAF, then reset the ECU, re-learned the idle and the car ran like new again. . This is great as I thought I had a problem with the transmission. It's only two screws and a wire, so if you just want to replace the MAF it's very easy. I ended up losing one of my screws so be careful when removing it as it's just encased in plastic. I'll probably clean the throttle body more often on this car in hopes I don't have to buy another MAF. .
