I've had this for about 18 months now and my wife and I have used it countless times to remove splinters or work on something really tiny. Honestly one of the most useful tools I've bought. Build quality is good enough for what they are. In 18 months of regular use, nothing has broken or worn out. The optical quality is certainly not stunning, but in view of the price it is completely sufficient. The LED lights are adjustable in rotation and direction, so you can move them around to get the shade you want, but you can't adjust the intensity. They're a bit fragile so I don't think they would survive in a tool bag. For anyone complaining about having to be too close to the subject, that's how optics work. Hold the magnifying glass 1/2 inch from the eye and then 12 inches from the piece of paper, now try 6 inches. Not working properly? Well, they're basically tiny magnifying glasses. The focal lengths between the object, the loop and your eye should be optimal for the job. This is not a manufacturing defect and it is not fair to criticize this product because you don't understand the physics.
