Very beautiful, very bright, easy to assemble (difficult for perfectionists).

This light is very attractive, very thin, very minimalist. It has a nice bright white finish and the frame is exactly the same color as the lens giving it a very nice monochrome look. The metal back panel makes it significantly more premium than many competing products. The chain is pleasant to the touch and greatly simplifies the installation of the Solo lamp. I found the initial installation very easy, I didn't have to route any grommets and I didn't have to bother pushing wires through the hole like other reviewers have. I don't think shims will ever be needed as you may not fully tighten the mounting plate. The screw holes align perfectly with the holes in a standard 4 inch round junction box. I got lucky and managed to center the light right on the mount. Simple and ready - if not for the perfectionism. The back panel was flush with the bracket, it didn't sit completely flush with the ceiling. In fact, it's almost impossible to completely flush mount them because of the texture ribs touching the raised portion of the backplate around the mounting area. I ended up with no gap on one side and more gap on the other side so I had to remove them and loosen/tighten the mounting screws to try to even out the gap. Before that I was happy with the uniformity of the slit (3-4mm circumferential), and in many cases I didn't have any luck like the first time: on later attempts it was really quite difficult to get the light on the mount centered around it to fix. When finished the light is beautiful and actually strikingly bright compared to the 'chest light' it replaced. Too bright at first but I've gotten used to it now so I don't think I'll add a dimmer. It has way more side coverage than I expected. I set it to 3000K and it's a little colder than an incandescent bulb but I like it. It has a split-second power-on delay, which doesn't bother me, but it might bother some.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Sad hardware
