Not worth the price, save up and buy one with home mapping function

Update: 2/19/21 I forgot I wrote a review and came back to write it, so i just update. I had to buy something new for my old robot vacuum as it wasn't working as it should. I found a box of random accessories for it here and it's insanely helpful, like $26 for rollers, new rotating brushes, filters, a small clipper, or tangle-free ropes. I have to sit and fiddle with it until I can get it to dock and charge. Look at the photo, there literally has to be a slab underneath for it to dock. I've cleaned the connectors but it just doesn't connect well to the dock unless I sit down and help it ONLY stand on it in the right spot. I don't know if it's just mine or maybe it's 2 years old, I don't use it much because of this problem. It's exhausting to sit down and try to dock it yourself when you have to use the damn plate underneath, so let me start by saying that today is my second day of having this thing. 07/17/19. I've wanted a Roomba for a long time and now even more so with 3 cats, a part time dog and a baby. I decided to take a chance on Prime Day because I couldn't beat the price. Delivery was incredibly fast, on 15.07. bought and on 16.07. delivered! Anyway, I mainly wanted this for the kitchen since it's the place where you enter the house (both through the back door and the front door) and cook, so the floor is always dirty. My daughter also loves stickers and goldfish, but she's very messy with both of them, so I ALWAYS mop the floors. The kitchen floor is the most difficult to maintain as it is the busiest place in the house. Let's get to the rating. So keep in mind that this is only day two and I will update over time. maybe if I don't decide to return it before the 30 day return period is over. I left my floor dirty so I could see it in action as soon as I received it. I opened it up, set it up and named it Spot. Install his home base and let him charge until my daughter goes to bed. Then I released Spot. I was very excited at first, and as he cleaned up I became less and less impressed. First thing I noticed was that he was throwing dirt and squishing goldfish with his little rotating bristle brush (not the one below, but the one that extends out from the side), he was bouncing a lot and spinning completely and walking again. It's ok because that's how they work, but I've noticed that they skip a lot of areas. Spot liked one place the most, the carpet in front of the door, which he twirled around there for a few minutes and then left, but ended up returning there several times, leaving other really dirty places dirty. I ended up putting our mats together in the kitchen (we have 3 mats, one in front of both doors and one in front of the sink to make dishwashing easier). . I looked around at his work and realized it was mehh. He left dirt particles in places where no obstacles could force him to do so. I decided to try the living/dining/play area. This is a large area with 3 rugs and some exposed wood floors. He didn't mind the carpet in the play area, the carpet in the dining area he didn't like, he had bears on it and walked over it but got stuck on a "cliff" aka bears that I had to rescue him on several occasions . once. He doesn't like the carpet in the living room because it's thicker. So he avoids it, which doesn't really matter because that's why I don't have him anyway. What I don't like: He bounces off things but doesn't seem conscious enough to not just randomly walk around the room so he ends up skipping places and following the same route the whole time because he hits one and the same, choose the same route several times. He'll hit something and do a 180 instead of the simple turn where he's already missed a bunch of mud 4 times. I also don't know why they don't allow cliff sensors to be turned off, he will only ever be on the ground floor and there are no cliffs so they are meaningless and disruptive to his sensors which don't like the pattern carpet. it has black on it. I know you can cover the sensors with paper or tape but it's not really necessary, you have to disable the feature, people have dark mats. I know they make new ones with mapping, is it worth almost $1000? Label ? I am not sure. This one still didn't cost the $299 I paid for Best Day Ever. I'm not sure yet if I'll send him back, I'll give him a week, maybe it will help if he just cleans the kitchen at night. Final thoughts: save up and get one with a gauge, I'm not 100% sure but I think it would be better than constantly hitting 180's and skipping spots because of it. I will still update it if I decide to keep it or return it. I really want to love this thing and really want it to work, but I don't want to follow it by saving it or putting it in front of the messy spots it misses.
