Review on ๐Ÿ”ฌ EnTeck Magnifying Illuminated Microscope for Beading & Jewelry Making by Sasha Hsiao

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It would be nice if they put the switch on top but...

This may be the first time I have given a product five stars on the day it was received , I usually leave room for an opt-out. The final factor for the fifth star was the loupe case - a plastic case with a rubber insert that keeps the loupe (and the key to open the battery compartment) securely in place. I've had several of these devices in the past, and I've always broken them or lost an old jeweler's loupe that got jammed in my eye). As with any high magnification device, focal length is very limited, so the height above the target (and the proximity of the lens to the eye) must be reasonably accurate. It is not a defect in the device but a function of a high magnification lens. Don't expect to use this to read the fine print. Another caveat: the LEDs are very bright - don't do what the guy in the demo video is doing and don't turn them on while pointing up! If you do, you'll have to wait a bit for your eyes to adjust before you start scouting your target. It would be nice if the switch was placed on top - but probably not practical for production. Learn to move the bottom switch by touching it (takes about 10 seconds). I am a turner and toolmaker. I bought this magnifying glass to look at the edges of some of my lathe tools that I deburr on purpose. When I was younger and went into the forest to look for fallen trees I had a microscope to examine the pattern of unidentified tree trunks to identify the wood. This summer I gave my microscope to my 16 year old grandson - I haven't had to collect deadwood for many years as I'm too old (and legless) (but I'm not deadwood myself). After trying this device on the millstones of my tools, I pulled out some exotic woods - I can see the cell structure clearly - and it's much easier than making a thin section for a microscope. I have found that there are several other providers of the same. Devices on Revain, at least one is cheaper (not to mention a case) and a few are slightly more expensive (and mention of a case). That means, that there are OEMs that make it for different labels, but that doesn't mean they all have the same body. Others may be just as good, that's all I can say about EnTeck. Let me repeat - a magnifying glass is not easy to use, any movement away from the eye or the target will defocus it. This is a magnifying glass. For most magnifications, about 15x is sufficient and 20x is too much. 3x, 10x, 15x should be sufficient for most purposes. This device is not intended for rough use in the workshop, but the thin case protects it well. Any movement away from the eye or at a distance from the target will blur it.
