way up) and it has a fancy (here's my choice of words) red button that you press to turn it on , and press again to turn it off. It has two bulbs (tiny LED bulbs, I'm guessing); A light is always on when you plug the cord into the outlet; The second light comes on when you turn it on (and goes off when you press the red button a second time to turn it off). Using control strips and small holders, I set up a few poles to hold the wire at three feet for easy turning on and off (right next to my regular light switch). The only thing that confuses me a bit is that the LED is on all the time, but since it's so tiny I'm assuming it doesn't use a real amount of power. However, it would be nice if you could turn off the little light. By the way, the light that lights up isn't the red area in the middle; There are two orange colors above and below the round red center, these colors light up when the cable is plugged in and the device is switched on. This block is good for "lightweight" work like light bulbs, small fans and the like; I wouldn't recommend using this to power an electric heater or anything that draws quite a bit of power as the cable is too light (I'm guessing it's 14 gauge, maybe 16). The cable is 9 feet long (as listed). So if you need a longer cable, this is not the device.
