If you have frequent power outages, I don't recommend a wired alarm. Get the battery-only version. I have 6 of these, replacing the hardware versions I had. When the power went out, all the alarms began to sound loudly, announcing "fire" and "carbon monoxide." The good news is that they can be stopped by pressing down on the battery compartment and allowing the battery to tilt. He stops. When power returns, close it. I used a broom. Much luck! Watch out when your power runs out!
