Works for some but not all
I tried curlers like this when I was younger and it was a disaster. I tried it and it was less of a disaster, but it still didn't work. The clip holding it in place put ridges in my hair which made it look weird. The barrel size is good and my hair hasn't gotten tangled with it. The grooves were just a deal breaker for me.
