Will not work with 12 volt air compressor

I bought this to use with my 12 volt DC/14 amp cigarette lighter air compressor. I bought a new device and it doesn't work as advertised. The device works, I can hear the fan turning on, but there is no power from the cigarette lighter. Actually the cigarette lighter socket is cheap/poorly constructed, there is no satisfying click when the air compressor plug is inserted. Even after I hold the cigarette lighter socket with my hand, the compressor does not turn on. Very disappointed.
