It didn't work out of the box in 2001 883
Either the internal thread is not enough, or the external part where you hold the key is too long, you don't get enough compression with it. I had to use a spacer on the ring to squeeze it to remove the locking ring. The tool will not work immediately on a 2001 883 Sportster.
