Most winter boots for toddlers and toddlers tend to be rigid, calf-high boots that kids don't maneuver well in unless they're limping in them. This is good if you are only in the snow for a short time. However, since I don't send my 5 or 6 year old to school with an extra pair of shoes to change into once he gets there (because that means either the shoes or the shoes are lost), he ends up feeling like him has two concrete blocks on his feet when he wears boots all day. But these swamps are awesome! The bottom sole is waterproof, warm but elastic, like crocodiles. The upper part is fabric and I was afraid that water would seep through it, but I ran the faucet over it for a minute and the water seemed to evaporate. I suspect they have been treated with a water repellent treatment. So if you wash these boots with detergent or soap, the water resistance will disappear and you will have to recoat again. But so far it looks like it's 100% waterproof as advertised. And my son likes the two handles, they are easy to put on the boots even with gloves.
