UPDATE 2 I've had this for almost a year now and wanted to report that it's working as well as ever. I'm very happy with it.END UPDATE 2UPDATE I've had it for seven months now and the product is still working great. However, my friend has this as well and after a year of use it disconnected from his laptop. he sent another one back and HP immediately sent him a repaired one. with three dead pixels. He also tried to send it back but they said there must be at least five dead pixels before they will give you a new one. that seems unacceptable to me since you pay so much, but he doesn't notice it anymore. Apparently it's a matter of luck. I've had good luck with mine so far, but if you get one with dead pixels, you can't get a new one. and die in a year. Hard to say, don't get it because it's good for what I need it for, but just be aware that it could be a problem. UPDATE I am an absolute layman when it comes to such products. I read a ton of reviews before deciding on a monitor and the choice seemed obvious. From other reviews this is a great value and you can't expect perfect quality from a 27-inch screen unless you're paying a lot more than a few hundred bucks. The color is a little washed out and not the same as my laptop screen. I don't know if this is an unrealistic expectation of a perfect color or not. It works great for what I use it for, which is comparing documents side-by-side, but if you're a computer graphics artist this probably won't suit your needs I left it with that. I tried adjusting the brightness and contrast, and moving the tones from warm to cool to standard, but ended up going back to standard because it looked best. More on color: I mostly notice a difference in grayscale (e.g. in my Chrome browser the color above is silver and looks white). ie on this screen) and in iCal (or now "Calendar"). In Calendar/iCal in month view, the word "Today" is usually highlighted in blue. I don't see a selection on this screen - it looks like any other field/day on the calendar. Other colors in iCal/Calendar are also quite washed out - for example when you sort events by calendar, some are blue, some purple, some yellow - the colored dots or label highlights are a little washed out and look a bit more fluorescent than on a real laptop screen . I watched TV here and didn't notice any color difference at all. I've noticed that when you use the highlighter on the PDF in preview, the colors also look more fluorescent (and oddly more like the actual highlighter colors) than they do on the Mac screen on my laptop, especially the yellow. I don't realize it most of the time, but I use iCal a lot, so the word "today" is a little annoying. But as I mentioned, I don't know if it's possible to get better color quality on a 27-inch screen at this price point, and literally everything else about it is perfect for my needs. I like that about it. : It is very thin, takes up little space on the desktop, is very light and easy to move. The outside of the screen is black and very glossy and looks great on my desk. The best part is what it does: using my laptop at home is awesome. I bought it to connect to a 13 inch MacBook Pro and bought an Apple Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to have more desk space when I work at home and it's the same , like I now have a 27-inch Mac. I get a lot more out of my laptop with this screen than I normally do. The 13″ was a lot cheaper than a full-size laptop – a lot bigger than the Air and more portable/lighter/smaller than the 15″, but I used to have a 15″ MacBook Pro and really missed the extra two inches. I work with a lot of text documents and PDFs and I often have to compare several documents at the same time, which was very tiring on my laptop. This is the perfect solution as I can now view up to three documents 100% side by side (maybe it's not entirely correct but they are readable at the size I have and that's how I use them) and I always get it nor the advantage of a smaller laptop. Now all I'm missing is a trackpad because I'm used to using gestures on my laptop, but if you're looking to spend $70 on a magic mouse, or what Apple calls it, your problems are solved. Some things to consider. : I have a MacBook Pro 2012. I had to buy an HDMI -> Mini Display Port converter; The supplied VGA and DVI cables (? I think it's DVI, but maybe that's the wrong label) wouldn't connect to my computer (or rather, my computer didn't have a connector for it). I believe the converter cost about $20. You have to be careful and make sure you buy the right connector for your particular computer. And I've been told that connecting with an HDMI cable gives better quality than VGA or DVI, so I did that, but I haven't tried any other way, so I can't comment on that. Screen back and forth a bit but not by a ton. It doesn't bother me at all, but some people seemed annoyed that the tilt angle wasn't very great. It doesn't tilt from side to side at all, but I don't see why you can't just move it across the table one way or another. There are no speakers. I don't care, but some people seem to have had trouble with it. I don't know why you rely on the screen for speakers. I can't imagine screen speakers being very good, or at least better than your laptop speakers. I have no idea what a "good" viewing angle is and isn't, but make sure you're tilting it at the right angle to get the perfect viewing angle. it doesn't look perfect from any height. When I sit 100% upright, the bottom edge of the screen gets a little darker. Personally, I don't think anyone sitting in the same position at the table will care.
