Review on Rokinon FE75MFT-B 7.5mm F3.5 UMC Fisheye Lens for Micro Four Thirds (Olympus & Panasonic) - Black by Josh Long

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Tiny quality fisheye lens at a very reasonable price

There are many great reviews for this lens but I just have to add my own impressions from a recent holiday. metal bracket. It feels pretty solid, the manual focus ring is a joy to use. The aperture ring is pretty crisp, it's not difficult to move it. optical. it is really nice. When purchasing this lens you should be aware of the geometric distortion that fisheye creates. Color fringes are common if that's what you're looking for, but they're minimal and you don't usually have to worry about fixing them. The sharpness is also very good with an open aperture. All the time in manual mode. There are no electrical contacts here; You need to set the camera to record without a lens attached (often not the default setting). Your best bet is probably to use aperture priority, where the camera body automatically adjusts shutter speed (and potentially ISO) to ensure proper exposure. Manual focusing is very easy. Most of the time I just leave infinity; With this lens, I don't often have to refocus on something close by. The built-in lens hood is good, but makes the lens a bit bulkier than it should be. When the sun enters the frame, blowout can occur, which is sometimes difficult to avoid with this lens. The design doesn't allow for the use of front filters and that's the only really negative thing I can say about the lens. You can pay a lot more for a Panasonic fisheye with full electronic capability, but there really isn't much point in such a lens. . Autofocus isn't really needed given the tremendous depth of field, and aperture-priority shots using the on-lens aperture ring are practically reliable. So five stars for the price-performance ratio and a warm recommendation. Before you buy, however, be aware that this particular lens comes under several names and it's impossible to tell which is the cheapest at any given time. For example, check out the Bower Ultra-Wide 7.5mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens for Micro 4/3 SLY75BM43 and compare prices before you buy.
