Benefits:1. It's not loud. We have seven cats and no one is afraid of them.2. The design appears to be safe for cats. 3. The manual locking mechanism works very easily. Cons: 1. It has gone astray twice in the last year (the red light is flashing). You take out the batteries to reset it. I've tried twice, with two different dead battery periods, to no avail. My daughter tried this later and it restarted. growl. The first time it failed, it fell off easily.2. The tunnel is deep and small. The big cat couldn't get through. It must be at least one inch larger in each direction.3. I want the arrows on the handle to be colored red/green/yellow/grey instead of all gray. I have to use a flashlight to install it because the arrows are hard to distinguish.4. A single setting electronically controls access for identified cats. The output is controlled manually. Overall I'm giving it 4 stars because I know what it can do. One star deducted for 2 mistakes.
