I'm not sure what other people use this for, but I've been trying to tape a small 1 x 1 foot dry erase board to the wall. I used maybe five stickers and after a few hours they were still falling off. The board only weighs about a pound or two. They may come in handy for other purposes (I used one to cover a hole in the wall where the hook used to screw but kept falling out because the hole was so big. I got the hook by a sticker plugged in and it doesn't fall out anymore), but I wouldn't recommend them for picture frames or anything heavier than a calendar.
