The ham man measures them - and they are good!

I was looking for a pair of lightning rods to install a new ham radio and antenna and I needed one that had enough thread depth and a nut built in so I could thread it to a bulkhead through a wide strip of copper , leading to 3 ground stakes that I install. They seemed to fit the bill, were inexpensive, and had a nice option to screw directly ONTO THE COUNTERTOP on the side of the body (not the radius) if I needed to. I took a chance and bought two. They arrived quickly (Revain Prime) but I noticed that one had a slightly bent pin. As soon as I could, I threw them onto our Agilent 5071C calibrated network analyzer. Well Batman surprise surprise surprise both measure well and can be used at much higher frequencies than a SO239/259 connector should be used. Here is what I measured for RF power using a full 2-port calibration performed with a valid Agilent OSL calibrated kit: MHZ SWR 1:x Attenuation, through, dB3.5 1.1566 -0 .144114 1.1079 -0.104921 1.0562 -0.061128 1.0389 -0.027750 1.0716 - 0.0331 For HF I have no doubts when they work properly. I can't confirm what (and at what voltage) will happen during a hit or near miss, so I have to trust the pill insert is good... but the performance and insertion loss up to the HF is fine. With imported accessories you never really know what you're going to get, but the fit, finish, SWR and cushioning look great and I recommend them. At frequencies above 50MHz they also worked very well, at least up to the 2m range, above which they still measured it could be used to at least 1GHz: (I suspect the case was for Type-N connections and the PL/SO types just screwed on instead.) I didn't measure data above 3 GHz as this type of connector is not used that highly. is not considered good above 350MHz so I was surprised by these results - enough to go back and check the readings with a 50 ohm calibration load and then again with a similar length dummy continuity reference made up of N and SO type shanks /PL adapters stacked on top of each other to the same length. Everything is fine here guys. They will be used with my new Alpha Delta DXCC, new Yaesu FT-450D and rebuilt Comet 5/8 Wave for 2m ground plane. Granted, it probably cost me more to develop a really good grounding system than the antennas, but I'll sleep better because of it, and I'll sleep better knowing that my inexpensive $18 surge arresters won't affect station operations!
