Loose backs, but corrected by locking.
Bought for my fiance as it is his birthstone and he has two piercings in one ear which are uniquely shaped. He only needed one, so if the one on him is lost, he will cling to the other in an emergency. Which brings me to my only advice at this point: buy some earring backs to replace the ones on them as they are a bit loose and will eventually come loose. Luckily he caught it in time and didn't lose the hairpin. Also, the stones are a good size and look very nice. He is very happy with them.
