Food Dispenser Oil Spreader

I ordered this after seeing an ad on FB and thought it looked great. The idea is good, but I haven't had any luck with it. I took a pack of butter out of the fridge and put it in a plastic tube. I tried pushing it through the only slot by rotating the top which has grooves that look a lot like a screw. It wasn't possible so I microwaved the whole thing for a few seconds which made it easier but 2 people used a whole packet of butter for 2 corn on the cob so it may have gotten too soft. In the end, as always, we used an oil bath from the fridge. I'd suggest using a knob of butter at room temperature to see if that improves performance.
