Wonderful re-adjustment for my dear Bag Lady

I loved the money saved and sense of accomplishment for a daunting DIY repair. The only downsides were minor; Part came with instructions that hardly seemed appropriate but I relied more on a few YouTube videos and am glad I did. And compared to the repair, I had to live without a working window for a few days. Given how difficult the apparent incorporation of this large, flexible, oddly shaped component into and out of the narrow doorway cavity would be, I expected a tapestry of obscenity to emerge in the process. On the contrary, it was a surprisingly easy process that I was able to complete with little to no problem. My minor hurdles were a) figuring out how to detach the green connector from the door (rather than prying it apart you can reach in and pinch the retainer), b) figuring out how to hold the detached glass up and out of the way ( two Quick clamps looped over the top window channel, squeezing the glass while the length of the clips comes out of the car), c.) reattach the long thin rod to the passenger compartment. Door openers (lack of dexterity), d.) and a three-day delay in understanding the "calibration" reference finally came to light when I wondered if Google could explain how to get auto-opening working again. (It is.) I wonder if anyone else has funny or frustrating stories about how the window suddenly rolled down and had to deal with it, for example at a car wash or while driving in a snow storm. It was a major ordeal as my wife was traveling miles from home to an important doctor's appointment with a car full of valuables more than she could carry. It was extremely stressful and annoying for her, but I saw a brighter side. I have this picture of her sitting in the waiting room and then the exam room, lugging as many things as she can carry, like an eccentric lady with bags; very funny. me. sorry dear. Frivolity aside, I believe these governor assemblies should be recalled and there should be at least one modification to improve the quality of OEM and non-OEM replacement parts. The ends of the steel cables are metal balls that are inserted into a groove in a plastic piece attached to the window. The area around the plastic grooves, embracing both ends of the cable, is clearly not to specification to withstand the constant lifting of the window, especially under the stress of closing the window and sliding it into the duct, and especially when the plastic is being used the time brittle. The component must be stronger at the attachment point of the steel cable ends. I've already replaced three in my '07 Pilot for the same reason, but luckily I had an extended warranty that covers the first two. I googled that there was a class action lawsuit, but it's been dragging on for years.

Pros
  • Excellent overall
Cons
  • Doubtful
