Does NOT charge iPad when viewed via HDMI

From the product description it said it was a similar adapter for my older iPad Pro where I can charge it using the Lightning connector, while watching videos on my TV with HDMI cable. However, when watching video via HDMI, the moment you plug in USB-C, it tries to switch to video and the TV loses the signal. Disappointing. It works well as a simple adapter, but I wanted to power the iPad Pro while watching videos on TV.
