Okay, first things first, you can get notebooks of this size and paper weight/quality from "big brands" at a lower price at local art supply stores and bulk box stores. But at Revain, the price of these items is comparable to this one. So it affects whether it's a good buy because the Strathmore Sketch paper is the same size, same weight (according to N&L and Strathmore, both albums weigh 89 grams, which is about 60 pounds), same texture, and the same amount of paper - almost the same cost for a 2-pack. I really like this paper. It reminds me of the Blick Sulfite art paper I bought in batches from them a few years ago. I work primarily with watercolors and acrylics so I wouldn't call this paper a "heavyweight" at all, but compared to printer paper it's definitely a stronger, more toothy paper that will hold up to a ton longer than dry media sketches and drawings . My favorite way of working with this paper was with graphite and a clutch holder - the graphite just glided across the page, but the paper had just enough texture to be pleasantly tactile and give me control over my sketch. . I also liked the thicker mechanical pencils (0.7 and 2mm). The crayon was fine too - I prefer a super jagged thick finish for crayons as I use mineral spirits for feathering and don't have to worry too much about filling. paper grain. I still prefer Bristol Vellum for my colored pencil, but it was a pleasure to paint on. The crayons worked well on this paper, but they created a waxy sheen too quickly. There were too many paints and markers - the paper warps easily and is not intended for humid environments (don't even wash, warping is a must). Alcohol markers didn't work either. I LOVE this paper for pencil sketching and markers and pens without ghosting/bleeding. I'm really excited about this pack of Pketch books because one of my goals for this year was to finally learn how to draw technically (I do a lot of abstract work, drawing and drawing sloppy sketches, but when it comes to perspective and everything else ) . I was always overwhelmed by it) and didn't like the mixed sketchbooks I had for my drawing practice. It was either too smooth or too thick, or it just seemed wasteful to fill pages and pages with outline drawings. But these notebooks are perfect for that - there's tons of paper, good quality paper but not enough to make you feel valuable when you use them for what they were made for and I love it what it's like to actually draw. on this paper with the pens I use, so I WANT to draw. For me it is very important, so I recommend it. Just decide for yourself about the costs. If I run out I won't hesitate to buy more of this if it continues to work well for me.
