Review on πŸ”Œ Vibrantly Colored Silicone Electrical Flex Cables: Stranded & Highly Flexible by Maxwell Thomas

Not suitable for crimping

I bought this specifically for use with Molex crimp connectors. I was worried it wouldn't work with crimp terminals, but when I bought it it was the only 20 AWG stranded wire available. I prefer PVC insulation and have never worked with silicone insulation. At first the crimp seemed good - it stuck to the insulation and looked normal. That is, until some lateral torque has been applied. I've attached a photo of what's going on - the insulation cracks and tears. This wire (and probably all silicone wires) is not designed for use with crimp connectors, so it's useless to me. As long as you don't crimp the insulation I'm pretty sure this wire is good - seems to be quite high quality and the packaging was above average - each spool is wrapped in velcro - it looks super professional. Heat resistance wasn't a big issue, but I did a comparison between PVC and this silicone under a flashlight. The silicone definitely made it better, but they both caught fire in the end. I've seen silicone handle those temperatures better.
