I looked at the cheap $30 plastic ones but after reading the reviews I gave them up because of the poor sound quality. The sheer quality of this unit makes it very professional and the speaker is the heaviest part. It's a piece of metal and I think it's strong enough to withstand all of nature's beatings. The hand mic is nice rubber, not the cheap plastic I was thinking. The sirens and horns are very loud, but I don't plan on using them. I only bought it for the microphone and the sound is clear enough to be heard outside the car so I'm happy. There are a lot of wires but I only used 2 green plus red and black battery wires. I don't need the rest because I don't have a hazard warning light and don't want to connect it to my car's horn. There are certainly louder speakers out there, but for the price this is a great deal!
