Review on Garmin Speed and Cadence Sensor 2 Bundle: Premium Bike Sensors for Speed and Pedaling Cadence Monitoring by Jim Reinhardt

Great cadence sensor, so-so spin bike speed sensor

I bought this to use at home on my spin bike paired with my Peloton app and Garmin Instinct watch. I give the cadence sensor 5 stars and the speed sensor 3, so an average of 4 stars for this package. The cadence sensor is easy to install and accurate in my opinion, wakes up quickly and is unobtrusive. The speed sensor was a bit more difficult to install as it was mounted on the surface of the spin bike wheel next to the hub rather than on the wheel hub. My guess is that my issues with speed sensor waking up is installation related since the speed sensor orientation is rotated 90 degrees. The instructions say you have to spin the wheel twice and the sensor will wake up. But that never happens to me. I've found that the safest way to wake up the sensor is to remove and reinsert the battery cover (sometimes up to five times!) and hope the light comes on. After waking up, it appears to be accurate on speed calculations if you get the scope right. I was under the impression that this would work great on a road or mountain bike, but I probably wouldn't use it for this app given the Garmin Instinct with GPS which I would rely on instead. They plan to install it on a spin bike: after my workout, the speed sensor doesn't go to sleep for a while. Somehow, just a few hours later on the same day as my workout, I get phantom speed and workout data on my Garmin Connect app. It's a bit strange, so I'm looking for another speed sensor to use now.
