My son just turned 7 and about the size of a 7.5 to 8 year old I think (51 inches, 60 pounds). I ordered xs but it was too small so i ordered a small and it fits perfectly. He can even get away with an M with his sleeve rolled up. These shirts are great for outdoor sports and layering. My son loves everything under the armor but he loves them too and I was able to get so much color!
