Someone who liked it advised me to buy this engraver so I decided to try it. I'm glad I did! Let's start with the positive things, shall we? It's a great car with pretty good performance. At 5.5 watts. With an output power of 40W. You will find that you do more than just engrave. As I searched the internet for a few projects to try, I saw a lot of things I would like to try, but I figured most of these would be left to the big boys. To my surprise there weren't any. With an assembly volume of almost 300 x 300 mm. you have a lot of space to do some pretty amazing woodworking projects. I've only had it a few weeks and this is my first laser engraver. Yes...it's a steep learning curve and you need a well ventilated area, but as you can see in some of my photos ideas started to form quickly. I sat and thought, wondering if I could make this and that, and with a few tries I was able to make something similar. I won't show many unnecessary things in my photos, but I strongly recommend having some as you will need them if you are going to sell some of your work. Some of the things I've done. I didn't photograph everything, two different types of cutting boards, matching spoons and spatulas, storage boxes, Business cards. Another thing I like is that this device does a pretty good job at deep wood engraving. Some of the things he has produced amazed me. The hardest part is realizing that you just can't throw a piece of wood under a laser and engrave something without knowing what type of wood you have. You can make it look amazing on plywood and then try it on a different type of wood and it won't be what you see. The laser comes with an SD card and free LaserGRBL software. You can get an older version on your card, but you can always download the latest version. Please take the time to watch the setup video to properly set up and connect your device. The map also includes sample images to help you get started. The glasses that come with the machine seem to be of better quality than the ones I bought online. However, PLEASE ensure that anyone having access to a running machine wears appropriate safety goggles as the laser is powerful enough to permanently damage your Eyesite. Let's discuss the possibilities: Assembly: Assembly, while not too difficult, will take some time. . I built two of these devices, both took over an hour to watch videos. There have been some updates to the unit which means stepping back from the included manual and video and looking at the revision sheet Two Trees included in the box. With that in mind, many thanks to Two Trees for activating the updates! Cable Management: The cable management is not very good. There are only a couple of cables to worry about, but damn they're in the way. Luckily, Two Trees gives you plenty of zip ties. because you will use them. We dressed them and then cut them off to take them to another location. Once you figure it out, it's no problem. No Limit Switches: This is probably the area of the possibilities that will concern you the most. Depending on the software you are using, you will find that your laser will hit the frame multiple times due to a lack of end stops. For example. Every time I turn on Lightburn (purchased software) it starts the machine. (I am sure, that there is a setting I can turn off.) When I think of moving the laser all the way to the right, it definitely falls on the left frame. Also, any time you accidentally hit the home button, be prepared to hit stop, otherwise it might hit the frame. Side note: Two ports for two limit switches are available on the motherboard. I installed them and was able to prevent one side from going down. To activate the second, you need to put a lot of effort. Check YouTube as I will be making videos on installing limit switches. Two Trees documents the construction volume with 300 x 300 mm. I think it's a little less, but it could be wrong. So do I recommend Totem S? I can say that, I'm not for a second advising my purchase. I put some of my projects online and people wrote that they thought I had a car ten times more expensive. Of course you can use some additives. Example: mentioned limit switches and ventilated housing. But for the price you pay, you get a reliable machine that performs well. I have already recommended this machine to others. Hope that helps!
