This is not a straight plug, it is an adapter built into the plug so it takes up 1 space on the bar. Too bad. The start screen appeared immediately and you can start. The user interface resembles Windows' attempt to replace menus with different-sized, multicolored rectangles that span the entire screen. Basic information and some categories for details. Default apps included and easier download option. By setting up another box from scratch, THIS is much easier. More reliable and impressive for a $50 box. It seems that some applications are actually trial versions that need to be purchased in the future. Depends on how deep you want to go in and how you use it. I wanted to be able to access the NAS over the network from a not-so-smart TV. It could also play different formats. This device does both superbly and quickly. Another thing is the remote control. Oddly enough, for a component that lets you play video and music files, unfortunately there aren't enough controls for this function. Pause, next and other niceties are not found in this simplest remote control. Very disappointing these days. Judging by some of the other reviews, I was a little surprised by the responsiveness of the remote and the box. I didn't find any playback issues after running the file, but getting the remote to find and select that file can be a bit of a hassle. The board is a bit disappointing. The good news is that you can use other advanced input devices. I only had a few hours so let's check them out. Total purchase costs >$50. Simple for the basic user, basic to advanced user interface. It would be easy for a beginner, but you can work a little if you want. It seems to fit my needs perfectly for something simple and relatively maintenance free once the cables are removed.
