What I love most about WIRE KNIT JEWELERY is that the finished jewelry looks like commercial jewelry because it is made entirely of metal wire, sheet metal and semi-precious stones. I bought the book because I liked the necklace on the book cover: this design is quite representative of the pieces in the book. This book is a great addition to a knitter's technical bookshelf. About a third of the book is devoted to tools, material selection, wire knitting techniques, and jewelry knitting techniques (e.g. wire wrapping, adding beads, forming sheet metal, applying patina). The methods are explained step by step, and the stages are clearly illustrated with large color photos. There are patterns for rings (5), earrings (6), bracelets (7), and necklaces (7). My favorite patterns are lily necklace (cover design), viking necklace, bracelet and hoop (plain knitted metal cords), mixed link bracelet (three rectangles of sheet metal with knitted interior tied together with knitted cords), leaf earrings (one leaf veined with wrapped wire), and rectangular ones Opal earrings (long dangling strips with individual pear-shaped Peruvian opals as pendants). The book gives me all the information I need to make my own professional looking wire ornaments based on knitting techniques. Two other good books on knitted wire embellishments are Wire Knitting by Nancy Wiseman. and Twist and Loop by Annie Modesitt: dozens of wire knitting and crochet embellishment designs. Of the three, I like the KNITTED WIRE JEWELERY best for the excellent photos that illustrate the technique and the elegant simplicity of the design.
