Precise Humidity Control With Xikar PuroTemp Round Digital Hygrometer, 10-Second Refresh Rate Review

I have found this to be a great product. i already own a Xiar torch lighter so slightly biased, but the product performs well and is accurate. Ensure that you follow the instructions to properly calibrate it. I use this in addition to the built in hygrometer from my humidor. I have yet to find those built-in ones accurate so I bought the Xiar to ensure my cigars are fresh and maintain my level of humidity.

I've been smoking cigars for years, but finally decided to get a humidor so I could buy cigars in bulk. I seasoned my humidor prior to putting my cigars in, however, I was led astray by the analog hygrometer that came with the humidor. Even though I calibrated the analog hygrometer, it was still inaccurate.After I got this hygrometer and saw the humidity in my humidor quickly lowering the reading on the hygrometer. first it does not fit into the 1.75 inch hole my humidor has. I was going to send it back but the unit is very accurate as the analog one that came with my humidor is not. i ended up using the supplied adhesive strip and sticking it to a shelf so i can read it through the humidor window. It must be placed inside the humidor anyways so now i have the completely inaccurate analog one up front basically to keep the humidor sealed.

This picked up humidity pretty quickly. I put it in the salt water bag for 24 hours, and it read 73 degrees, which is within the manufacturer specification of +- 2%. It also fit perfectly in the spot where my analog hygrometer had been sitting.

For the price this hygrometer gets the job done! I am using it in my 25 cigar humidor and it is working fine. The only issue I had was if it was shaken or moved roughly it would divert back to Celsius. I just had to handle it very delicately to keep it on Fahrenheit and place it in my humidor. I was doubtful about the accuracy of the unit because of the low price but I placed it in a Bovida One step 75% Humidity calibration bag for 36 hours as recommended by Bovida and the Xikar Hygrometer was spot on 75% humidity and the temperature was also spot on 75 degrees.The meter works as advertised.If you test yours I recommend a Boveda calibration bag.I purchased a second one and also put it in the Boveda calibration bag and it to was also dead on 75% humidity and 75 degree temperature.

This hygrometer or a similar model from the same company was advertised as being the same size as most holes on the fronts of humidors. This is indeed the case, but the sensor holes are on the front face of this hygrometer, so unless you install it backwards, which defeats the purpose of a round hygrometer that fits in the hole of a humidor, it will only measure the humidity of the ambient air, not of the air inside the humidor.So I left the cheapo analog hygrometer in its place on my humidor…

Works as expected, I bought a boveda calibration pack just to see how accurate it was, because it says 2% +/- accuracy. It was spot on. Just to note this comes pre calibrated and does not allow you to calibrate it. I would recommend this to anyone with a humidor, takes the guess work out of reading an analog hygrometer and trying to determine which side of the line its on. I bought this item to accurately record the humidity in reptile cages. Not the use for which it was intended, but the "pet store" variety of hygrometers typically used in reptile cages are inaccurate by up to 20%. I bought 6 XIKAR Hygrometers and am very pleased with the product. They were easy to calibrate and so far are all reporting humidity accurately. I highly recommend this product and the supplier.

Thought these were reading very low in the humidor so I put them in a sealed container with 14 Boveda 65%rh packets (that’s just what’s in there I didn’t choose 14 for any reason). Not only is the rh no longer within the +/-2% rh tolerance but the thermometer (which is much easier to be accurate with) is wrong.They’re ok for a couple years but be ready and willing to throw them out.

So you've got your humidor seasoned and all your favorite cigars are ready for their new home. Before you put them in there don't trust that cheap analog hygrometer that came with your humidor. Works as described. Didn't have to calibrate it. I have an 2 humidors, one for regular cigars and one for flavored cigars. I have aCaliber IV Digital Hygromter by Western Humidor in my other humidor which comes pre-calibrated. They matched exactly on the humidity. But I will warn you it will take up to 24 hours for it to read the correct levels.

Wonderful product. Very compact and doesn’t take up valuable space in humidor. Easy to use and accurate.It defaults to Celsius but a button on the side switches it to always read temps in Fahrenheit.

I have 2 of these hygrometers now, and calibrated them both in the same "salt test" bag for 36 hours, then put them both in the same humidor. For about a week, they both read the same RH +/- 1%, but after that they started to drift apart by as much as 6%. The unfortunate truth is that it is nearly impossible to get a truly accurate hygrometer, so for that reason, this hygrometer is as good as any. Easy to calibrate but that is also this gizmo's biggest flaw. After 4 hrs in a wet salt environment in a ziplock bag, just tap the Calibrate button, remove from bag and done. Doesn't get any easier. I have 4 of them. Have periodically put all 4 in the same environment, RH & temp readings have always been identical in all 4. Good way to also test the analog hygrometer. wow what a difference it makes. I had an old analog that came with my humidor and I have been fighting with it to keep the humidity at 70%. Well found out that it was that instead of my humidor. I put this in and within an hour it was 70% and it has stayed there. Amazing how changing one this leads to having to do nothing ever again.Just suck it up, throw out the analog hygrometer and replace it with this one and you will never be sorry again. I use this hygrometer/thermometer inside an acrylic jar for my overflow cigars, and it's been working just fine. This is a little pricey, but worth it. Accuracy is within specified variances, no problems and it works just fine.

Good hygrometer , very accurate , I recommend calibrating with the salt method just to insure accuracy , but just out of the box , it is within 2 % .Would I recommend it , yes .
