Excellent, but not an external-mount replacement

I purchased this assuming it would be a replacement for the analog hygrometer that's on the outside of a Capri 50ct humidor. Well, this 832XI is actually an INTERNAL mount, and it doesn't have the capability to read through to the inside of the humidor. Just be aware. It works great, by the way. I performed a salt calibration right out of the box, and the display read 74%. I pressed and held "Calibrate", and the display reset to 75%. No complaints. Mounts with an included magnet sticker.

Pros
  • Makes an excellent gift for cigar lovers
Cons
  • The numbers may be difficult to read for those with visual impairments

Adhesive System Unsuitable For Plush-Lined Instrument Cases

Nice and accurate -- two pieces, one flat steel plate attaches to the case with double-coated tape, magnet on device allows device to stick in position in case yet be easily removed for examination or battery replacement. However, I can find nowhere in my plush-lined guitar cases that the plate with the tape on it will stick to for very long. Plan on buying a roll of your own D-C tape, preferably a 3M product, to use instead of the adhesive system provided.

Pros
  • Easy operation with just a few buttons
Cons
  • It may not be suitable for use with certain types of cigars

Product arrived over the weekend and I immediately did a salt test to calibrate the hygrometer. After 24 hours in a bag with the cap of wet salt, the hygrometer was showing 73% humidity at 75 degrees. Following that test, I did another test with a brand new bag and brand new cap of wet salt. The result from the second test was also 73%. While the paperwork claims that it's accurate within +/- 2% at 70% humidity, I had to take 1 star off my rating due to the lack of any actual way to calibrate…

Pros
  • Hygrometers
Cons
  • It may not work well in extremely humid environments

Great Addition to My Humidor

Anyone who invests money in cigars should also invest in a digital hygrometer. The Xikar Adjustable Digital Cigar Hygrometer costs a few dollars more than the standard analog models but its accuracy can't be beat. Without going into an extremely long, drawn out review I would like to make a couple of points that might save the would be purchaser some anxiety.Like most, when I received the Xikar Hygrometer I wanted to get it calibrated and in my humidor as quickly as possible. Per the…

Pros
  • Perfect for travelers who need to ensure proper humidor conditions
Cons
  • The device may not work well in areas with poor ventilation

Not what is described

The description states that this is an adjustable hygrometer that fits into humidors that have an old analog hole. A min/max feature is in the description. It is also listed as model 833XI. This hygrometer is not adjustable. It does not fit in the hole of analog hygrometers (it's too small). The sensor holes are on the face, thus even if it did fit the hole the hygrometer would be measuring the outside of your humidor, not the inside. There is no min/max feature. The model number shipped, and…

Pros
  • Can be used with or without a hygrometer crystal
Cons
  • The battery life may be affected by extreme temperature changes

Lasted 6 years good for me

I bought two of these at the same time in Oct 2016. The numbers were always the same in two different tupperdors with the same boveda % and same weight in cigars. The batteries finally died this week (Feb 2022).

Pros
  • Works great so far so good . It’s very heavy duty would recommend to anyone.
Cons
  • It requires a battery, which can be inconvenient to replace

The only hygrometer I will use

Xikar is the only manufacturer of hygrometers that I use. They are calibrated from the factory but I always salt test them and re calibrate every 6 months or so. Most of the time they don't need it. I have found that if you let the battery run low it will begin to read incorrectly. Change the battery every 6 months when you check the calibration and all will be fine. I also use the rectangle one in my other humidors and I like them both. This one fits in the stock round notch for the analog…

Pros
  • Gives you greater control over your cigar collection

  • The digital display may be difficult to clean or maintain
