Unfortunately, the instructions were missing for an important step. Step One: Get roommate approval *prior* to purchase and during assembly. Serious. Do it. Saves time on returns and/or frame assembly and disassembly. They will refuse to cooperate with you on assembly, but try (insist)! So revine, revine, revine. Why do you want to box? The box was torn at the top. One of the vertical supports was slightly bent. I didn't look for a replacement. Assembled normally (one end may be a bit tight and more difficult to match with patches). The instructions could have been (much) better: it's hard to see how the cross braces run in front of the vertical rails at the front and at the back (if I remember). Front and back are not exactly the same. Self-assembly is not easy, but possible. I will say that it is better to plan ahead. I adjusted the depth to 30 inches to fit my desk. But with all the cables, cable management loops and all, it stuck out too much (to please a roommate). Disassembled and reassembled to adjust depth 4 inches less. Then I noticed when the last shelf was in place that the front and back shelves touched and there was no gap. Dismantled and reassembled. again. to adjust the depth an additional 1 inch. The device is very durable although I don't have much of it.
