There is some confusion with the tree timer because the switch only has two positions - off and on. However, for this product, ON is a temporary setting. Suppose you turn it on at 5:00 p.m. It turns off automatically after six hours at 11:00 p.m. If you leave the switch alone, the tree will turn on again at 5:00 p.m. the next day. He's been doing this at my house for three days. But if you switch it to "off" then you mess up the timer system. Other brands have a three-position switch with "off", "on" settings. and timers. That's not this switch. But the tree MUST have a timer. The biggest disappointment is that the star at the top of the tree doesn't burn. It reflects the interior light a little, but does not have its own light source. For me this is a big shortcoming as the star disappears into a dark room. For this reason, I'm sticking with the Mr. Christmas brand trees. This brand has a light in the stars on the tree tops. The lights on the tree are very bright and colorful, and the battery life of the timer system is pretty good.
