Review on BougeRV Bilateral Universal Adjustment Surfboard by Jake Atonyo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Beautiful, strong, easy to install.

I ordered this kayak holder to match my 2021 Honda Pilot's BougeRV bars. The kayak holders were packed in a sturdy cardboard box and the two holders were enclosed in a thick plastic bag. The third pocket contained four straps to attach the kayaks to the mounts. The base of the holders is made of thick aluminum and looks solid. No loose parts to assemble. Two plastic-coated metal plates are used to attach the kayak holder to the crossbar. Installing these plates under the crossbar and tightening the nuts to attach the kayak brackets took about five minutes for both brackets. The stand is made of steel, it is also thick and strong. It is covered in thick foam padding and also has a paddle holder. It is adjustable from the down position to the vertical position. The large adjusting nut is loosened for lowering and raising. The teeth of the adjustable lever are cut very deep and will not slip after tightening. The lower saddle on which the kayaks lie is made of hard plastic with rubber skids. They prevent the kayak from slipping and chafing. The saddle rests on an aluminum arm and is adjustable from side to side to accommodate different size kayaks. Once the kayak is in position, a woven strap runs over the shoulder and around the roof rails. The buckle is covered with a thick layer of paint and there is protective foam/cloth padding under the buckle to prevent scratching the car's paintwork. The strap didn't slip off after I put it on to keep the kayak in place. The clip teeth are very aggressive and hold the tape securely. I loaded two kayaks, one 9.5ft and the other 11.5ft. Both seemed securely in place and didn't move as we drove the 25 minutes to the beach. While loading the pilot was a challenge, loading one of ours was easy enough for my friends at the Lower Forester.
