Review on ViewSonic VX2457-MHD Gaming Monitor - FreeSync, 1920X1080P, 75Hz, Flicker-Free by Jerry Stewart

Revainrating 2 out of 5

It's actually pretty awful.

The package came today, so I've been using it for several hours. So far I actually think it's pretty awful. I bought it because it had so many good reviews, but now that I've looked at the lower rated reviews I definitely see the same issues. First, out of the box, the stand is flimsy and unstable. It cannot be adjusted because it is pre-assembled directly on the monitor. I can't figure out how to tighten it. It wobbles back and forth and doesn't spin back and forth at all. He is lying on the table, hunched over, tilted to the right, unable to stand up straight. Every time my foot touches the table, the monitor twitches like crazy and sags more and more to the right. It won't work for my writing job. The bottom panel snaps in nicely and solidly (it has a small fastener on it), it's just a pre-installed hinge. Second, the image is blurry and grainy. I've been playing with the controls for a long time and can't seem to get it to sharpen or adjust contrast, brightness or colors. I hooked it up to my laptop with dueling screens enabled and my laptop looks 10x sharper and more color balanced. Third, when we talk about controls. They are hard to come by and not very easy to use. The menu is clunky and with so many options there should be a remote control or something. Again, I've been playing with the controls for about 2 hours and half the features I bought for it are grayed out and can't be selected, or moving slides from 0 to 100 makes no noticeable difference. Four is healthy. The speakers are on the back of the monitor, so it's really loud behind the monitor and not as loud in front. Which makes using it in my apartment problematic as I basically send all the sound through the wall to my neighbor. Also, I had to set the speakers to level 1 (out of 100) because they were incredibly loud. And overall they don't sound very good, about as bad as my laptop's speakers, which are pretty crappy. I've had a 19" ViewSonic for a few years and it's great - clean, bright, good colours, easy on the eye. , No problem. So I figured I'd stick with the brand and just buy a larger version that I can use for movies too. This is clearly not a monitor designed for work and I tested it with film and my laptop still looked better. ... Given the ruined stand and controls, this will likely return to Revane tomorrow. I'll sleep on it first.
